MANILA, Philippines - Michael Koncz, the business advisor of eight-division world champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, has reportedly traveled to Las Vegas to meet with Top Rank chief executive officer Bob Arum.According to a report from Fight Hype, Koncz is meeting with Arum regarding a potential mega-fight between Pacquiao and undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"He's meeting with Bob to make the Mayweather fight," a source told Fight Hype.
A Pacquiao and Mayweather fight has long been awaited by boxing fans, as the two boxers are number 1 and number 2 on most pound-for-pound lists.
Negotiations for the potential mega-fight have fallen apart over various issues, including the Olympic-style random blood and urine testing that Mayweather has demanded Pacquiao to take.
Recently, however, Arum revealed that Pacquiao has agreed on the testing issue, once again opening up the possibility of the fight.
Mayweather's adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, also announced recently that his boxer is aiming to return to the ring on May 5, 2012, and wants to put on "the biggest fight ever."
Ellerbe also hinted that they will potentially pursue a fight with "the little fella," referring to Pacquiao.
Both Mayweather and Pacquiao are coming off controversial victories: Mayweather defeated Victor Ortiz last September through a "legal sucker punch," while Pacquiao eked out a controversial majority decision victory over rival Juan Manuel Marquez last November 12.
Negotiations for the mega-fight seemed to be over even before they began, however, when it was revealed that Arum was more interested in pursuing a fourth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez rather than a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather.
Another Fight Hype source says, however, that Pacquiao has given Koncz the "marching orders" to make the fight with Mayweather.
"They've got the investors. The money is there. It's what Manny wants. It's just a matter of whether or not Bob is willing to make it happen," the source said.
Boxing analysts have long said that a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will potentially be the most lucrative bout in the history of the sport, and will most likely break existing live gate and pay-per-view records.
