MANILA, Philippines - A MalacaƱang wedding for the country's first bachelor president may no longer happen after President Aquino said he is putting his love life on hold for now.In his speech during a ceremony for Urban Poor Solidarity Week, Aquino said he will prioritize his work until the end of his term in 2016. Only then, he said, will he finally find time to find love.
“Pagdating po ng 2016, eksakto po nun June 30 noon, last time n’yo siguro ako makikita. June 30, 11 AM, pagkaway ko ho sa inyong lahat nun lilingon muna ako sasabihin ko, ‘O ‘di ba ang dami nang ipinagbago?'" he said.
"At pag malaki na ho ipinagbago, siguro naman ho July 1, aasikasuhin ko naman yung lovelife ko,” he added.
Last May, Aquino expressed hope he could get hitched while he's still president.
Aquino, 51, will be 56 years old when he steps down from office.
Aquino recently made fun of his bachelor status, saying that his love life is "unlike poverty." "It's not being addressed," he said, drawing laughter from the audience.
Last September, Aquino compared the stages of his love life to Coca-Cola, which varies from regular to light to zero.
The country's first bachelor President earlier said that he has been unlucky in love. Valenzuela City councilor Shalani Soledad was his girlfriend before he became president.
Soledad is now engaged to Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo. They plan on getting married in 2012.
Aquino has also dated celebrity stylist Liz Uy, stockbroker Len Lopez, and pre-school teacher Bunny Calica.
Among the women he has called beautiful are Bais City Mayor Karen Villanueva, Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, and Korean television personality Grace Lee. He was also said to have liked Sabrina Chua of Singapore-based Channel News Asia when he visited Singapore last April. -- with report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
