MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines is keen in hosting the qualifiers and finals of the next AFC Challenge Cup, which takes place in 2014.

Philippine Azkals team manager Dan Palami staging such event will definitely push Philippine football to greater heights.

"I will make a recommendation to PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta that we host the qualifiers for tournament and the finals as well," Palami said in the-AFC.com.

The Philippine Azkals are currently competing in the 2012 edition of the cup.

They will play against Palestine on Monday in a battle for third place.

"It would be good for us to be a host of this important tournament. I think that's the next step for us,” said Palami.

The Philippines actually played host to one of the Challenge Cup’s qualifying leg last year.

The game was held at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City, where the Azkals defeated Mongolia, 2-0.

Palami said two years is enough time for the Philippines to prepare the necessary facilities for the 2014 cup.

"By that time, we will have the facilities to have the two groups for the finals,” he said.

"I saw the pitches we have trained in and we have played in and we should be okay. One group can be in Panaad in Bacolod City. Hosting will definitely be a huge boost for Philippine football," he added.
